About First Shift

First Shift is a searchable directory of clinical experience opportunities for premedical students. It covers clinical volunteering, paid clinical roles, and research positions.

We list opportunities in San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston.

How listings are sourced

We automatically read the volunteer, careers, and research pages of hospitals, clinics, research labs, and nonprofits across each metro. A person reviews every listing before it is published, and each one carries the date we last checked it, shown in plain language on the listing.

How often it is checked

Sources are re-checked on a regular schedule, and published listings are re-verified daily. A listing that cannot be verified for an extended period is removed.
